The National Bank of Belarus announced that the start of currency trading on the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange (BCSE) on Monday was postponed by an hour.
“We inform you that on February 28, 2022, trading on the currency market of the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange OJSC will open at 11:00 (coincides with Moscow time – TASS note),” the regulator said in a statement.
Usually trading on the BCSE takes place from 10:00 to 13:00.
On February 25, the National Bank of Belarus stated that the banking sector of the republic is functioning stably and has a sufficient margin of safety to perform tasks in the face of increased geopolitical tensions and sanctions. At the same time, it was emphasized that, predicting various scenarios for the development of the situation, the regulator and the country’s banks developed „adequate response measures to potential risks.”
For his part, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the country has enough currency, while he noted that due to the weakening of the dollar on world markets, it would be more profitable for citizens to keep their savings in Belarusian rubles. Earlier it was reported that a number of large Belarusian banks fell under Western sanctions.
