The trade turnover between Tajikistan and Iran in 2021 doubled compared to 2020, exceeding $120 million. This was announced on Friday by the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the republic following a meeting in Dushanbe between the head of the department, Zavka Zavqizoda, and the head of the Iranian province of Khorasan-Rezavi, Yakubali Nazari.
“As a result of the implementation of the instructions of the heads of the two states (Tajikistan and Iran – TASS note) and their special attention to strengthening relations between two friendly countries that have a common history, language and culture, bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Iran in 2021 increased to 121 million dollars, which is twice as much as in 2020.
The department added that this figure is not limiting and there are many opportunities to increase it. „The first step in this direction is the development of a roadmap to increase bilateral trade to $500 million,” the statement said. The Ministry of Economic Development noted that during the meeting the parties agreed on cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, the creation of joint ventures in the free economic zones of Tajikistan with the involvement of Iranian investors and local companies in the province of Khorasan-Razavi, in particular for the production of products, detergents, textile, construction and electrical products, carpets and shoes.
