According to the results of May, Gazprom shares occupied more than a third in the portfolios of private investors, the Mosbirzha reported. Over the month, the share of these securities in portfolios increased from 25.7% to 36.5%. The analysis was carried out on the basis of depersonalized aggregated data on open positions of private investors in the most liquid shares of the stock market of the exchange on a certain date.

Securities of Sberbank were also very popular among investors — 18% of the portfolio fell on ordinary securities of the bank, and 4.9% on preferred shares.

According to the results of May, the shares of the mining and metallurgical company Norilsk Nickel accounted for 11.5%, the oil company LUKOIL – 7.6%. Preferred shares of the oil and gas producer Surgutneftegaz took 6.1% in the portfolio, Rosneft shares – 4.3%, MTS telecommunications company securities – 4.2%, Yandex technology company shares – 3.6%, and paper NLMK – 3.3%.

The number of private investors with access to the Russian market continues to grow. At the end of May 2022, the number of individuals with brokerage accounts on the Moscow Exchange increased by 482 thousand people and reached 19.8 million people. They opened 33.2 million accounts, the trading platform calculated. At the beginning of the year, there were about 17 million of them, or more than 10% of the Russian population, and the number of brokerage accounts on the Moscow Exchange was 27.7 million.
